The incredibly successful Passage 450 - and now the Passage 420 - have been designed and engineered to reflect the years of knowledge gained through the owners, focus groups, Consumer Satisfaction Surveys, a world-class dealer organization, and the continued dedication of Warren Luhrs and his Hunter Design Team. The Passage 420 mirrors the innovations that have evolved throughout the Hunter line. Special features such as the B & R rig, integrated cockpit arch, mast struts, and composite chainplates are all present on the 420. Center cockpits are not usually known for performing, but the Passage 420 surprisingly breaks the rules. Below, the innovation continues with a great salon complete with convertible dinette and opposing settee - both loaded with storage capability. The highly polished teak dining table complements the rich fabrics and durable Corian. Television, VCR, and AM-FM stereo with CD will keep the crew entertained while the chef prepares in the enormous galley. Side by side dual opening refrigerator and freezer, three burner gimbaled range with oven, microwave, and twin stainless sinks - not to mention a hidden trash receptacle - are included. The navigation station opposite the galley houses the controls to all the ship's systems and allows space for all navigational electronics as well. Comfort is important at Hunter, and the staterooms aboard the 420 are no exception. Aft, there is an island, queen-sized berth with an inner-spring mattress that is flanked by hanging wardrobes, and drawers large enough for long term liveaboards. Even a slide-out desk is included. The private en suite head features plenty of storage, beautiful Corian covered vanity, and a shower. Forward, the guest stateroom with its double berth and private head with shower will please family or friends. Spacious and comfortable, this stateroom also boasts immense storage and plenty of natural light and ventilation.

The underbody of the Hunter 33 mirrors Henderson's other Hunter designs in the recent 41 and 44-foot models. Bringing the beam well aft to provide interior space, but not sacrificing performance has worked extremely well in his innovative designs. The deck is wide and workable without intrusions. The cockpit can hold a crowd under sail or at the dock, but is also set up to sail easily single handedly. Accommodations include a large, aft master stateroom with plenty of storage and headroom. The galley is complete with Corian counters, a two-burner range, icebox and a deep, single basin stainless steel sink. Even the non-skid dishware is included. Entertaining or fortifying the crew is easy in a massive salon and guests will appreciate the privacy of the forward v-berth stateroom.

Manufactures Description

The 4000 Express combines styling and performance with traditional Tiara standards and reputation for rugged dependability and sea-keeping ability. The cockpit offers truly social seating - with an electric double-wide helm seat, abutting companion sear, aft-facing lounge, and rear lounge. The patented cockpit table of molded fiberglass does triple duty as a cockpit table / dining table / sun pad. The unit disappears flush into the cockpit sole when not in use. Engine room access is concealed in the aft-facing lounge, and can also be acccessed by lifting the main engine hatch, with hydraulic lift. The interior comes in 2 floor plans. Plan A sleeps 6 and includes an 11 foot starboard lounge, with removable pedestal seats and dining table (lounge also converts to 2-person berth). The Jonmeri 40 is a Finnish-built, high- performance ocean cruiser renowned for its robust construction, excellent upwind ability, and superior short-handed handling. Designed for serious offshore sailing and fast passage making, the vessel successfully balances a competitive race profile with the practical comforts and tankage necessary for extended cruising in high latitudes or across oceans.

The Jonmeri 40 was conceived by the Finnish design office of J & J Design and built by Jonmeri Yachts in Finland. The chosen hull material is GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), which in this era and yard, translates to a hand-laid, solid laminate hull below the waterline, with a balsa-cored deck and topsides. This method provides a very stiff structure, excellent resistance to osmosis, and a well-insulated interior, a crucial factor for comfortable high-latitude or cold-water cruising.

The defining feature of the Jonmeri 40 is its deep, fin-and-bulb keel and a moderately high aspect ratio rudder. The practical implication for cruising is  superior lift and a high pointing ability.
